Established as the chill pill afternoon of classically inspired music over lunch, Saturday at the Italian is a fountain of magical sound as Rachel Maio (cellist) and French-born Jordane Francois (keyboard) combine in a vortex of pure musical pleasure.   Let your senses spill over and relax with a cultural tonic.

The Blackbirds Play The Italian Sunday Lunch Live  

The global meridian of our Bay is where this trio reside and we should look to the skies and thank our lucky stars that they have flocked here from their Jamaican and Indonesian boughs to join us.

These guys really kick arse.  Adi grew up in Lombok laying down thick and juicy baselines beneath his guitar lines and creates, somewhat miraculously, a percussive element as well.  He is backed up by Benhur, also from Indonesia, who sprinkles magic into the music and laces it into his vocal harmonies.

And the mama bird?   Heralding the chorus is Mama Renee with a Jamaican beauty that is not all voice.  Her warm tones will take your breath away and slip you sideways into an harmonic bath of liquid honey.

Caroline Agostini Plays The Italian                

The chilled Saturday gigs at the Italian will be blown away this Saturday 5th March with Welsh born, London-loved jazz singer, Caroline Agostini.

Agostini throws her audience a line and drags them willingly into the arms of the 1920s as she seduces them with the street-hardened vocals of her heroines (Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughn, Billie Holliday and Dinah Washington et al).  This is the real deal…an innate diva loved by London, willed on by the BBC.

While a possibly trite admission, she has played for Bruce Willis and Demi Moore, Jordanian Royalty, has captured the show at Brixton Academy and has appeared many times on the BBC’s The Music Factory.

That aside, every performance is a thrill and we are graced with her presence here in Byron.
