The 2010 world famous Byron Bay Writers Festival occurred two short weeks following our opening and yet we were host to a literary lunch in honour of Reg Mombassa who came to talk and sign his copies of his biography, “The Mind and Times of Reg Mombassa.” Guests enjoyed a three course lunch accompanied by wines specially chosen to complement each course. Exquisite dolci, contorni, a choice of vegetarian and non vegetarian mains, all with superb service. Reg sparkled in conversation with his biographer, Murray Waldren (The Australian) and spoke of his 50′s New Zealand childhood to his days touring the world with his band, Mental as Anything. The restaurant was full of admiration for one of Australia’s living national treasures.

The Italian is host to a number of events in the calendar year. This Melbourne Cup Day the restaurant entertained a full crowd with a fashion parade of local and international designers, courtesy of Nami Boutique. The race was screened live and as the photos prove, the crowd was lively and the hospitality abundant. Guests arrived and enjoyed a glass of Sparkling on arrival then ate feasting entrees before sitting down to watch the race and indulge their senses in a three course lunch. Byron Comedian, Ellen Briggs, was our MC for the day.
